FEED THE HOMELESS IN SOUTH DALLAS
VRBC's sister church, Cornerstone Baptist Church, has a meal to feed the homeless several times a week. Volunteers who have a heart and passion to assist the less fortunate are welcomed to assist in serving meals. Please contact the Cornerstone church office at (214) 426-5468, in order that they might place you on the schedule. Current serving times:
Sunday 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM;
Tuesday/Thursday -12:30 PM and 7:30 PM
Wednesday – 6:00 PM
Saturday – 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM
If you would like to serve on Sunday mornings with others from VRBC, meet in the North parking lot near the church sign before the group departs at 5:30am. Text Woody (214-695-1866) or Jerry (214-912-8500) to let them know to expect you. Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. You can carpool with the group and return by 8:00am. You are welcome to bring children as long as they are closely supervised. Please note: the Sunday morning breakfasts are hosted by another church. Some days volunteers are in high demand and you may be very busy; other times there may be tons of volunteers and your primary role may be to visit with the homeless.
KIDS BEACH CLUB AT MOCKINGBIRD ELEMENTARY - WEEKLY ON TUESDAYS
VRBC sponsors a fun, Christian after-school program for children at Mockingbird Elementary called Kids Beach Club. We need high school and adult volunteers who can serve on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:30, beginning September 20th. Click here for more information about Kids Beach Club, and contact Brenda Lund if you are interested in volunteering.
COPPELL CODE VIOLATION PROJECTS
When a Coppell resident is unable to maintain their home or yard in compliance with city standards, they receive a code violation from the city. When the city discovers that a resident is physically or financially unable to complete these repairs themselves, the city refers these needs to a network of churches who can assist with these projects. VRBC maintains a list of people who are interested in helping with code violation projects in Coppell. Whenever a project arises, we send an email to see who is able to help. If you are interested in being on this email list to help with code violation projects, please contact Brenda Lund.
COPPELL OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY: OCT 22 FALL FESTIVAL AT OAKS RIVERCHASE APTS
VRBC is partnering with CARES Team Chris and Brittney Covey to sponsor a Fall Festival at the Oaks Riverchase Apartments, directly across from VRBC. The Fall Festival is October 22nd from 3-5pm. We need volunteers to help with activities such as a Bounce House, Hay Ride, Costume Contest, Cake Walk, Face Painting, and Games. We also need people to help serve fall-themed food such as Caramel Apples, Hay Stacks, Candied Popcorn Balls, Apple Cider and hot chocolate for the Hay Ride. Finally, we need people to donate candy, drinks, the above foods and other snacks, as well as cupcakes, cakes, and cookies for the Cake Walk. This is a great opportunity for families to serve together. If you are interested, please contact Amy McAdams.
MENTOR AT BARBARA BUSH MIDDLE SCHOOL - 30 MINUTES 3-4 TIMES MONTHLY
Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) has a mentoring/tutoring initiative to help provide motivational support and additional math assistance to sixth graders. We need volunteers who could serve as professional, positive role models for sixth graders with this program at Barbara Bush Middle School, the school immediately south of VRBC's parking lot in Valley Ranch. Volunteers would meet with the student 3-4 times a month, and the schedule is flexible to accommodate the mentor--thirty minutes before, after school , or during lunch. They are currently taking applications and a new volunteer orientation and training will be held at the beginning of October. Contact CFBISD Mentoring Coordinator Doris Quinn for more information at 972-672-3242 or quinnd@cfbisd.edu.
