 VRBC'S BENEVOLENCE: INTERNAL & EXTERNAL

Recent economic and employment trends have caused an increased demand on the bevolence fund of VRBC.

VRBC wanted to give everyone a chance to participate in the encouragement and support of your fellow church member, so on every fifth Sunday of the month (four times per year) we will be taking up a separate offering designated for the benevolence fund. Upon your exit on each of the 4-Fifth Sundays ushers will be at the exit to receive your Fifth Sunday Benevolence Offering. Please drop whatever cash, coin or check you feel is appropriate in the basket. Baskets will also be available at the iCenter and Welcome Center for your convenience.

VRBC has historically met the financial needs of those in need through a designated benevolence fund. This fund has been used to meet the needs of those who just drop in and those who are within our congregation.

Benevolence needs are administered by the Benevolence Leadership Team within the Deacon Body. As needs are identified by church staff or a Deacon, the request is submitted to the Benevolence Leadership Team for approval. These requests can be caused by job loss, medical emergencies or other catastrophic events in the life of a church member.

In many cases VRBC seeks to partner with individuals over a period of several months to help provide encouragement and links to resources. Periodically these requests are more crisis-oriented and immediate needs are met through providing gift cards or referrals. Depending on the circumstances, some requests that are outside VRBC's ability to assist are directed to local agencies who can better handle the recurring needs. VRBC financially supports Metrocrest Social Services, Christian Community Action, and Irving Cares.

Offerings to the benevolence fund can be made at anytime either on-line or by simply marking benevolence in the memo line of your check.

If you are experiencing a financial emergency, please feel free to speak with your Deacon or any member of the VRBC Staff.

Acts 2:42-47
“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need…”

1 John 3:16-18
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. [17] If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? [18] Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
