About Us

Our Mission: Inviting diverse and disconnected people to passionately follow Jesus together

God has been so good to us! At VRBC, he has assembled a multi-generational, multi-ethnic group of loving, humble, servant-hearted people who truly want to know Jesus, become more like him, and share him with the world. We strive to surrender to his transforming work within us so that we become a people who love each other and our community as Jesus would. This is the driving heartbeat of our life together at VRBC.

God has planted VRBC in a beautifully diverse community. The neighborhoods around our church are filled with people from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, political, and religious backgrounds. Tragically, many of these people are disconnected – from God and from one another. We believe God has intentionally placed us here to invite these diverse and disconnected people to find unity in one glorious calling: passionately following Jesus together.

About Our Worship Services

As we follow Jesus, we strive to worship God with our entire lives, every moment of every day. But we especially value the time we spend each Sunday worshiping him together! Our desire is for our services to be an opportunity for every person to hear from God and to respond to God in worship.

As we plan our worship services, our goal is that they would be:

  • Crafted for Engagement – We intentionally design our services to help people of all backgrounds connect with God and each other in meaningful ways.

  • Driven by the Gospel – The good news of Jesus is the driving force and thematic center of every service.

  • Designed for Development – Our services are purposefully crafted to help facilitate the spiritual growth of participants.

  • Intentionally Inviting – We plan worship services that are accessible and appealing not only to Christians, but also to those who don’t yet know Jesus.

On a more practical note, here are a few descriptions of our services:

  • We view each service as a journey that our people take together as a family. Using a variety of Scriptures, songs, sermons, prayers, and other elements, we focus on helping people reflect on one or more key biblical themes and experience God’s grace to transform us in that area.

  • Musically, our services represent the diversity of our congregation and community. We utilize several different genres, including a variety of modern worship styles, modern hymns, traditional hymns (in both traditional and newer arrangements), and more.

  • We value shared leadership in our services, which means that multiple people lead songs, read Scriptures, pray, etc., in each service. We also regularly involve kids and students in worship in various ways, and periodically use a worship choir.

  • We value response to the work of the Spirit in our corporate worship. It is not uncommon for people to come and kneel at the front of our Sanctuary to pray during our response time. What is even more beautiful is that others in the church family will often join them and pray with them.

  • We take a collaborative approach to worship planning (and all our ministries). While the worship pastor is ultimately responsible for the service plan, we regularly collaborate on worship elements and order (especially the non-musical portions) to leverage the best ideas and wisdom from the team.
