OUR CALL TO CARE
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11
As followers of Jesus, we are called to reflect his care for his flock by protecting the most vulnerable in our community. The Bible reminds us to “defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed” (Psalm 82:3).
At VRBC, we take this responsibility seriously. Under the Good Shepherd umbrella, we are committed to building a culture of safety, accountability, and compassion—where children, youth, and adults can worship, grow, and serve with confidence that their well-being matters.
This commitment takes shape in three primary areas:
Protection and Response Policies for Adults
Emergency
Response Team
PROTECTION & RESPONSE FOR MINORS
We believe every child is a gift from God and deserves to be nurtured in an environment that is safe, loving, and free from harm. Our policies are designed to prevent abuse, protect children and youth, and provide clear steps of response if concerns arise.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE & SAFETY TEAM
In addition to relational safety, we are also committed to physical safety. Our Emergency Response Team is trained to guide our congregation in times of medical emergency, fire, severe weather, or threat of violence. Their work allows us to gather for worship and ministry with peace of mind.
